Detalle de: Latinamerican network of native fruit trees (Natifrut)

Title Latinamerican network of native fruit trees (Natifrut)
Description

The objective of this network is to develop strategies to study Latinamerican native fruit crops and promote a sustainable use of the genetic resources by local farmers. The project is focused in two groups of species that represent two different situations that are common to most native Latinamerican fruit crops. On the one hand, a genus with different interesting species and clear niche for expansion but underutilized at the commercial level (Annona); on the other hand, a species with a well developed commercial production but with a narrow genetic base in the commercially grown cultivars, the avocado. These two examples could serve as a model to perform similar activities in other fruit cops native of this region. This main objective is divided along three different specific objectives: 1) Ex situ, in situ and on farm conservation of genetic diversity; 2) Utilization of the diversity by the productive sector; 3) Training, technical capacitation and future sustainability of the network.
