Detalle de: Lactic Acid Bacteria and Probiotics

Title Lactic Acid Bacteria and Probiotics
Description

Study of the physiology, genetics and ecology of lactic acid bacteria in the gastrointestinal environment and food, in order to determine and optimize their role in human health, industrial processes and food quality.

Description of the lines of research:

Application of global gene expression analysis techniques and data exploitation: studies of metabolism regulation and comparative genomics of probiotic strains.

  • Study of the mechanisms involved in probiotic activity using molecular techniques such as differential expression in tissues and bacteria (nutrigenomics), etc.
  • Study of the role of two-component signal transduction systems in the metabolism and physiology of Lactobacillus casei.
  • L. casei stress response: adaptation to industrial production conditions and the intestinal habitat.
  • Design of recombinant strains of L. casei with improved probiotic or technological properties.
  • Production of bioactive metabolites by metabolic engineering in lactic acid bacteria.
