María Salud García Gutiérrez

Associate Professor (Profesora Titular) of Pharmacology at the Universidad Miguel Hernández (UMH), Department of Pharmacology, Paediatrics and Organic Chemistry, and Group Leader of the laboratory Translational neuropsychopharmacology of neurological and psychiatric diseases at the Instituto de Neurociencias de Alicante (UMH-CSIC).Her research focuses on neuropsychopharmacology, analysing how addictions, depression and stress affect the brain, and she currently combines molecular studies of ageing and cognitive decline with the aim of discovering new treatments for neuropsychiatric diseases. She has been carrying out translational neuropsychopharmacology research uninterruptedly since 2006, with expertise in animal models (stress, anxiety and depression), pharmacological studies and the processing of brain samples (human and rodent), genotyping, cryostat sections, microdissections, RNA extraction, real-time PCR and western blotting. She has collaborated in 19 research projects (including a European Twinning Project), being PI in two of them (FIS2018 and Consolidated GVA2022), and has 66 publications. Member of the national network of Addictive Disorders since 2008, currently the Primary Care Addictions Research Network. She teaches Pharmacology in the Degrees of Pharmacy, Medicine and Podiatry and in UMH master's programmes (Neurosciences and Translational Neuropsychopharmacology). Vice-Dean of Projection and Communication for the Degree in Pharmacy (Faculty of Pharmacy, UMH), Deputy Director of the Official Master's Degree in Translational Neuropsychopharmacology (2015-present) and previously Coordinator of the Degree in Pharmacy (2016-2017).
