Evolutionary biology of plants: patterns, processes and mechanisms · RJB

Biography

My research focuses primarily on the diversification of Neotropical taxa. Using climatic, spatial, computational, and genetic tools, my goal is to study demographic events and phylogenetic relationships in various organisms. I am currently studying the diversification of fish species in the order Osteoglossiformes, which are found on three different continents, using phylogenetic, biogeographic, and machine learning methods. During my Ph.D., I focused my studies on the phylogeography of species in arid environments. I have also conducted research on diversification mechanisms in other groups of plants, birds, and arthropods from the Neotropical region.

I hold a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Genetics and Molecular Biology from the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). I am currently a researcher at the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid. Prior to that, I was a researcher at Imperial College London, the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle in Paris, and the Fish Cytogenetics Laboratory at UFSCar. I was also a visiting researcher at the Sanmartín Lab and the Faircloth Lab. During my Ph.D., I was advised by Professor Evandro Marsola de Moraes. During my Ph.D., I was also a member of the Bryan Carstens Lab.
