| Title | Engineering multicellular biocircuits: programming cell-cell communication using plasmids as wires |
| Description |
PLASWIRES used conjugation, the natural mechanism by which plasmids travel between bacteria, to engineer a new multicellular communication technology in which plasmids act as intercellular wires. The project built large multicellular logic circuits and a multicellular programmable logic array, and developed simulation software (CellModeller, BactoSIM) to help design them, aiming to establish conjugation as a synthetic biology tool with applications in biomedicine and biotechnology.
