The main focus of the laboratory is the study the plant domestication and evolution from a genomic perspective. Domestication is a topic that has been fascinating scientists the last two hundred years since Charles Darwin published “The Variation of Animals and Plants under Domestication” (1868), and still we are far from fully understand all the changes that happens in a species under domestication. Do all the domesticated plant species have a genetic bottleneck compared with the wild populations ? Why so much phenotypic diversity ? How common are polyploidy, hybridizations and other species introgressions ?
