Title LOG-Lab: Microbial Ecology and Evolution (Logares Lab)
Description

Laboratory led by Ramiro Logares within the Ecology of Marine Microbes group of the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM-CSIC, Barcelona), established in 2015. Microbial ecologists, bioinformaticians and biotechnologists studying aquatic microbes.

The lab's research focuses on understanding the structuring, evolution and dynamics of natural microbial communities and populations, disentangling the network of microbial interactions in ecosystems, and linking the gene content of genomes, communities and their variation with ecological function and evolutionary processes. It uses large omics datasets (metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, single-cell genomics, long-read sequencing) from ocean time series such as the Blanes Bay Microbial Observatory and global expeditions (Malaspina, Tara Oceans), together with network analysis, metabolic modelling and empirical dynamic modelling. Ramiro Logares also coordinates the Marbits eco-informatics platform of the ICM-CSIC.
