Detalle de: Integrated analysis of (re)emerging infections

Title Integrated analysis of (re)emerging infections
Description

I2SysBio underwent a profound transformation during the pandemic that boosted our understanding of host-pathogen interactions, pathogens emergence, and the evolution and development of new evolving antiviral/antibiotic strategies. Our innovative research was deployed under the concept of One Health, involving the study of beneficial microbes and aiming at the health and restoration of ecosystems using ISB approaches.

Describe. We aim to comprehensively characterize emerging and reemerging infections by analyzing the genetic diversity and antimicrobial resistance of viruses and bacteria through metagenomics and other omics techniques. By applying ISB methods, we investigate evolutionary trajectories to understand their impact on host range, drug resistance, and immunity.

Predict. We develop mathematical models of emerging infections to predict cross-species transmission and adaptation to new hosts, considering both individual infection rates as local and global epidemiological dynamics.

Apply. We develop new biological tools to combat emerging pathogens, including disease management strategies like ecological interventions and targeted monitoring plans for high-risk ecosystems. Additionally, we create new therapeutic and preventive agents such as aptamers, peptides, nanobodies, and defective interfering particles or viruses.
