María Muñoz Muñoz

PhD in Biology from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She is currently Tenured Scientist at the Instituto Nacional de Investigación y Tecnología Agraria y Alimentaria (INIA-CSIC), where she leads the Research Group on Quality, Sustainability and Nutrigenomics in Swine Production. She has a solid research career developed at the INIA-CSIC, complemented by predoctoral stays at the University of Bologna, Aarhus University and INRA, and a postdoctoral period at The Roslin Institute (United Kingdom). Her research focuses on the genetic improvement of the Iberian pig, with special attention to the interaction between genetics, nutrition and environment (especially heat stress tolerance), using quantitative genetics techniques and omics technologies to advance knowledge on the sustainability, efficiency and adaptation to climate change of the pig sector. She has contributed to the development of applied tools such as SNP panels for meat quality improvement and breed authentication, currently used in the sector. She has participated in numerous competitive national and European research projects, leading several of them, and in contracts with companies in the sector, maintaining a close connection between research and transfer. She is the author of more than 60 scientific publications in international journals and has participated in approximately 150 conference communications. She also carries out intensive activity in training, supervision of doctoral theses, university teaching, scientific evaluation and dissemination, and is co-editor-in-chief of the journal Spanish Journal of Agricultural Research (Editorial CSIC).
