Omic technologies are high-resolution technologies that are applied today, mainly in basic and clinical research (for example, cell and tissue transcriptomics, proteomics and lipidomics).

These technologies can reach a level of knowledge that was unimaginable a few years ago, giving us information about the different cell populations of the brain, their role in the different neuronal circuits and the processes in which they participate. This knowledge facilitates the development and monitoring of new therapies for the treatment of different pathologies that affect the nervous system, such as Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s, as well as other therapies aimed at promoting a better quality of life for the population through earlier diagnoses based on genetic markers and biomarkers of diseases associated with ageing. Therefore, the Ci2A Omic Technologies Service was created with the aim of promoting and providing an integrated service for proteomics, genomics, epigenomics and transcriptomic studies, based on massive sequencing both for the centre’s own laboratories and for external users or collaborators. The omic technology lab provides an integrated service ranging from advice on experimental design to the performance of experimental procedures such as protein digestion, peptide labelling and fractionation, mass spectrometry analysis, extraction of nucleic acids and their quality control, the preparation of RNA directional libraries and their sequencing, among other procedures.
