Biography

Biotechnologist specialized in bioinformatics, focused on the analysis of high-throughput omics data to uncover molecular mechanisms of disease. PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (University of Granada and GENYO), on the role of epigenetic regulators and non-coding RNAs in tumor development, integrating computational biology with experimental molecular approaches.

Bioinformatics technician at the Instituto de Parasitología y Biomedicina López-Neyra (IPBLN-CSIC) since 2024, developing computational pipelines for the analysis and processing of spatial transcriptomics datasets. With more than 500 hours of advanced training in R and Python for statistical and computational data analysis, and experience handling large-scale omics datasets, he aims to develop robust computational methods that advance biomedical research and precision medicine.

I obtained my degree in Biotechnology at the University of Pablo de Olavide (Overall Scoring: 8.33/10), completing my Bachelor’s Thesis in the Department of Physiology, Anatomy, and Cell Biology (9.30/10). In 2015, I undertook a two-month internship at the Haber–Maheswaran Lab, MGH Cancer Center, Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA), under Dr. Valentine Comaills (h: 18), gaining valuable experience in molecular biology techniques. In the 2016/2017 academic year, I was awarded a competitive grant "Beca de Colaboración" from the Spanish Ministry of Education to carry out research in the same Department under the supervision of Dr. Guillermo López (h: 37) at Andalusian Centre for Developmental Biology (CABD, Sevilla), within the project “Effect of Nutrition on the Expression of Components of the Coenzyme Q Synthesis Complex”. Additionally, during the same period, I completed a Diploma of Specialization in Bioinformatic Analysis (750 hours) at the University of Pablo de Olavide (Overall Scoring: 8.30/10), which further strengthened my training in cellular biology and data analysis. In 2018, I obtained a MSc in Molecular Biology Applied to Biotechnology Companies at the University of Granada (Overall Scoring 9.59/10), completing my Master’s Thesis at the Centre for Genomics and Oncological Research (GENYO, Granada) under the competitive "Youth Guarantee" program, where I investigated epigenetic alterations in the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex in lung adenocarcinoma (Final Grade: 9.80/10).

In 2020, I obtained a predoctoral fellowship from the Plan Propio de Investigación of the University of Granada to conduct my PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Granada and GENYO, under the supervision of Dr. Pedro P. Medina Vico (h: 28) and Dr. Marta E. Cuadros Celorrio (h: 18). The thesis focused on the characterization of the involvement of the SWI/SNF chromatin-remodeling complex and non-coding RNAs in tumor development, combining both in silico and in vitro approaches (defense in October 2023, Excellent-Cum Laude grade). During my predoctoral stage, I participated in 3 scientific projects and contributed to 8 scientific publications in open-access, high-impact journals (Q1), including one as first co-author. Finally, I also served as a lecturer at the University of Granada (42.5 hours in Molecular Biology, 40 hours in Medical Biochemistry, 52.5 hours in General Biochemistry, and 45 hours in Neurochemistry), and disseminated my research through participation in 13 national and international scientific events (including a best poster award), as well as through public outreach activities such as the European Researchers’ Night. Additionally, I presented a patent at a scientific congress.

Throughout my career, I have gained extensive experience in the analysis of diverse bioinformatics datasets, mainly focused on gene expression profiling from RNA-Seq sequencing data and public transcriptomic repositories. I have developed solid expertise in preprocessing, normalization, and differential expression analyses, as well as in the integration and interpretation of high-throughput omics data. Moreover, I have received advanced training in R and Python programming languages for statistical and computational data analysis (>400 h).

On track to build my expertise as a bioinformatician, I have been employed for one and a half years at the Bioinformatics Unit of the Institute of Parasitology and Biomedicine “López-Neyra” (IPBLN, Granada, CSIC), within the framework of the “Plan Complementario de Biotecnología of the Junta de Andalucía”. During this period, I have actively contributed to bioinformatics analyses and the development of automated pipelines for the processing spatial transcriptomics datasets, enhancing both the efficiency and standardization of the Unit’s analytical workflows. In October 2025, I completed the MSc Advanced Bioinformatic Analysis at the UPO (Final Grade: 9.1/10), after defending my Master’s Thesis focused on the involvement of viral miRNAs in the development of anal squamous cell carcinoma (ASCC).
